The memorial has been collecting and documenting information on Bonn during the National Socialist era and on those persecuted in Bonn since 1986. A first temporary exhibition was shown in Bad Godesberg. Since 1996, the permanent exhibition has been located at Franziskanerstraße 9. In the near future, the memorial and the Nazi documentation center will move to a historical location. A new permanent exhibition will be set up in the utility rooms of the former Benedictine convent "zur ewigen Anbetung" in Bonn Endenich, which was converted into a ghetto camp for the Jewish population by the Gestapo in 1941.
After 36 years of independent sponsorship, the memorial site and the Bonn Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism have been institutions of the City of Bonn since 1 January 2021. The offer includes guided tours, workshops, tours, lectures and special exhibitions. Extensive documentation and a specialist library are available to external researchers.
